How to digitize audio cassettes

If you have precious audio cassettes containing the voice of your loved ones, we can help you digitize them so that you can relive those memories and preserve them for future generations.

While digitizing an audio cassette can seem like a daunting task, it's relatively straightforward with the right tools and knowledge. You can use trusted professional services, for example Digital Video & Film Lab, DVDYourMemories or EverPresent that specialize in audio digitization, or you can digitize them on your own.

Here's a step-by-step guide to digitize your audio cassette on your own:

Step 1: Gather necessary equipment

You will need a cassette player, an RCA to 3.5mm audio cable, a computer, and recording software.

Step 2: Connect the cassette player to your computer

Connect one end of the RCA to 3.5mm audio cable to the headphone jack of the cassette player, and the other end to the microphone or line-in jack on your computer.

Step 3: Set up the recording software

Open the recording software on your computer and select the input source as the microphone or line-in jack.

Step 4: Start playing the cassette tape

Insert the cassette tape into the cassette player and start playing the audio recording.

Step 5: Record the audio

Start recording the audio in the recording software by clicking on the record button. Make sure to adjust the recording levels to avoid any distortion.

Step 6: Stop recording

Once the audio recording has finished, stop recording in the software and save the file to your computer.

Step 7: Edit and save the file

Use audio editing software to remove any unwanted noise or improve the quality of the recording. Save the file in a format that is suitable for your needs, such as MP3 or WAV.

Step 8: Store the recording

Save the digitized recording to a safe location on your computer.

That's it! You have now digitized your audio recording from a cassette tape. Now you can easily upload to leaf by going to the “Upload” icon on either the app or website. Please reach out to contact@sharewithleaf.com if you need any help!
